Do flood notifications work the same as wildfire notifications?
Yes. Flood incidents use the same county-level notification system as wildfires. If you receive wildfire push notifications for a county, you will also receive flood notifications for that county.
Why wasn't I notified about a flood in my area? A few reasons this can happen:
- Watch Duty reporters create flood incidents only when there is an imminent risk to life and safety. Not every NWS issuance or high river gauge reading results in a Watch Duty flood incident.
- You may not have county notifications enabled for that county. Check and update this in Settings → Notifications → County Subscriptions.
- The flood may have been created as a silent incident, which only notifies users who have silent incident alerts enabled.
- Push notifications may be disabled at the device level. Check your iOS or Android notification settings for Watch Duty.
Can I unsubscribe from flood notifications for a specific county? Not yet. County subscriptions currently apply to both wildfires and floods. Independent opt-out controls for flood notifications are planned for a future release.
River Gauges
Can I set alerts for river gauges?
Yes. Tap any river gauge to set a personal alert threshold. You'll be notified when that gauge hits or exceeds the level you set.
Free users can set one alert on one gauge. Members can set multiple alerts across multiple gauges.
Where does the river gauge data come from?
River gauge data comes from NOAA's National Water Prediction Service.
