Broadcastify Feeds 101

The Broadcastify Feeds feature allows Watch Duty members to listen to live audio from public safety radio communications relevant to a fire's location. This feature is powered by our integration with Broadcastify, the world's largest source of live public safety audio streams, to provide valuable, real-time situational awareness.

How It Works

Our goal is to make it easy to find relevant scanner feeds without having to search manually. The Watch Duty app uses the location of an incident to find nearby audio streams.

Accessing Feeds: You can access scanner feeds in two ways:

  1. From an Active Incident: Tap on any fire icon on the map and select the "Info" tab. If there are nearby feeds, a "Broadcastify Feeds" section will appear.

  2. From a Dropped Pin: Tap and hold anywhere on the map to drop a pin. The info panel at the bottom will show a "Scanner Feeds" button if streams are available nearby.

A list of feeds with in a 30-mile radius will be displayed based on the latitude and longitude of the incident or dropped pin. Tapping on a feed will open the stream directly from Broadcastify's service.

Important Things to Know

  • Free vs. Premium (Ad-Supported): Watch Duty links to Broadcastify's standard, free streams, which may include advertisements. Your personal account status with Broadcastify determines your listening experience (with or without ads). A Watch Duty membership does not include a Broadcastify Premium subscription.

  • Feed Availability: The availability of scanner feeds is entirely dependent on the network of volunteers who provide audio to Broadcastify. In some remote areas or jurisdictions, there may be no available feeds for a given location.

  • Distinction from Radio Repeaters: This feature is for listening to audio feeds and is separate from our Radio Repeaters professional layer. The Radio Repeaters layer is a visual, non-audio tool designed to help firefighters identify channel and tone information for their physical radios.
