Watch Duty shares verified prescribed burn information to help communities understand planned fire activity in their area.
If you're an agency representative, fire professional, or prescribed fire practitioner, you can send information about an upcoming prescribed burn directly to Watch Duty.
How do I submit a prescribed burn?
Email prescribed burn information to prescribedfire@watchduty.org.
Please include:
- Location — coordinates are preferred
- Planned start and end dates and times
- Planned acreage, or indicate if the activity is a pile burn
- Point of contact (POC)
Whenever possible, send the information a few days before the planned burn. This gives our reporting team time to review the information before the burn begins.
How long will a prescribed burn stay in Watch Duty?
Prescribed burns automatically become inactive after a set amount of time based on the planned acreage.
If a burn ends earlier than expected and should be marked inactive sooner, contact Watch Duty so our reporting team can update it.
Does Watch Duty receive prescribed burn information automatically?
In some areas, yes.
Watch Duty partners with agencies and prescribed burn practitioners to provide the public with prescribed burn information.
Will Watch Duty users receive a notification about my prescribed burn?
No. Watch Duty does not send push notifications for prescribed burns.
Prescribed burns may appear in Watch Duty so users can identify planned fire activity and distinguish it from an unplanned wildfire.
