Our weather station data is provided by Synoptic Data, a service that aggregates information from thousands of public and private sources. The most effective way for Synoptic Data to access your weather station is by having your station participate in the Citizen Weather Observing Program (CWOP).
The process is as follows:
Your Station → CWOP System → Synoptic Data → Watch Duty
How to Contribute Your Weather Data
The National Weather Service has put together an excellent and comprehensive guide on how to get started with the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP).
Follow the NWS Guide Here: https://www.weather.gov/epz/cwopEPZ
- Visit the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) website.
- Create an account with the Citizen Weather Observer Program.
- You'll need your elevation, which can be found with this free tool.
- Once you submit it, you will receive a confirmation email from CWOP within five working days.
- Using your weather station brand's website, enter your new CWOP ID.
Once your station's real-time data is successfully flowing into the CWOP system, Synoptic Data should gain access to it with no additional work required on your part. It may take up to a few weeks for your weather station to appear in Watch Duty.
Troubleshooting: What If My Station Still Doesn't Appear?
If you have successfully enabled your weather station in CWOP and can verify that your data is visible in their system, but it is still not appearing in services that use Synoptic Data, you can contact Synoptic Data directly to investigate if there are any issues with ingesting your real-time data.
